The Tower of El Salvador

The tower of El Salvador is probably the oldest in Toledo; not only did it represent the minaret associated to the Mosque tha was built on the terrains where the church is now built (taking into account its type of construction), but it seems to be one of the first Muslim constructions built after the capital of the Visigoth Kingdom was conquered. In particular, the construction materials used were ontained from the demolition and remains of other existing Roman7Visigoth building found at the place. Both the tower and pointed arches in the church and patio of the old house of the parish priest wre proof of the importance of the building, so that it was finally declared a historical-artistic monument in 1931.

The restoration works of the tower were based on the "minimum intervention" criteria, respecting the building as much as possible, thus avoiding all aggressive actions.
